The castle we know and love from the movies, and there's really nostalgia, does not necessarily exactly match the books. I'm really proud of the areas that we like, handshaked the two together because they don't match up. So how much of that did you have to deal with for the games?Īlan Tew: Yeah, I feel like there are definitely spots.īoston Madsen: I know all the spots that have adjustments. Not dropped, but "altering" canon, I guess you could maybe call it. I know there's a lot that had to change for the movies from the books. And that's where, in the books, we can lean on that. ![]() ![]() But in a game, we get to link them together. As Alan said in his intro, we actually get a link. I think we're hoping that through all of these transactions, by solving all these things, we wind up with enough differences that you're having that same experience where it all feels fresh, you don't quite know exactly where it all is, but you know, you're in an authentic place and the right spot.īoston Madsen: Well, I mean, there's more real estate in a game too, than a movie. We hope ultimately, though, that even the experience of Harry where he comes in - he doesn't know the castle, he doesn't know exactly how it works, and you're kind of seeing it with fresh eyes for the first time. And it seems like a lot of times, what would reconcile those arguments were the books, because the written descriptions would give us a little bit of wiggle room, where we could wind up being more authentic by following the books, or achieve a gameplay goal. ![]() But we also want it to be really fun to play. We're not doing this, we're not doing that - we're making a good game.Īlan Tew: We know that there's gonna be a bunch of things that are just like - you want it to be familiar enough, right? It's like, okay, this is like the thing that I saw in the films, I recognize this tower, that tower, recognize this common room. I'm curious, what percentage was pulled from the books? What percentage was pulled from movies?īoston Madsen: As much as we could. It's absolutely incredible, all the little details. Screen Rant: was the most fun I've had in a long time.īoston Madsen: You looked like you were having fun!
